Your ultimate guide to Clearing

Posted 19 hours ago

Applications open from 2nd July

Clearing season is coming, so let's explain more about what that means...

Clearing is a system that allows students who don't have an offer to apply to universities that still have places available. It's a great way to find another course if you didn't get the grades you expected and you missed out on your firm choice.

What happens if I come through Clearing?

If you receive a clearing offer, you'll be told how to add the Clearing choice in your UCAS Hub and any deadlines you need to meet. You'll still receive the same teaching, support and degree as other students, and the university will hold accommodation back to ensure you all have a place in halls.

FAQs

You can use Clearing if you:

  • Didn't receive any offers
  • Declined all your offers
  • Didn't get the grades you needed for a conditional offer
  • Got the grades you needed, but have changed your mind about where you want to study
  • Haven't made any applications

UCAS Tariff points translate your qualifications and grades into numbers. Many qualifications (but not all) have a certain UCAS Tariff value, which will vary depending on the qualification and the grade you achieved.

The value of the number can sometimes be referred to in the entry requirements, alongside any subject-specific grades or other qualifications which do not receive UCAS Tariff points. Make sure you check the course entry requirements clearly to see if you can use Tariff points.

Yes, and we have an international student Clearing hotline on a different number +44 (0)116 223 1888, so you can get straight through to someone with the knowledge to help you.

You'll be able to apply for accommodation within 24 hours of adding Leicester as your Clearing choice on UCAS.

At Leicester, you are guaranteed a place in University accommodation if you apply before 1st September. You can come and view our campus and accommodation at our Accommodation Open House on Saturday 15th August 2026, or join us on a campus tour.
