We’ve pulled together the key information below so you can quickly find what you need:
You’ll need to fully move out of your room by 9:30am on your departure date.
Please make sure all of your belongings have been removed before you hand in your key. Once your key has been returned, you won’t be able to go back into your room and any items left behind may be disposed of.
Before you move out, please make sure you:
- Clean, vacuum and dust your room
- Remove posters or pictures without damaging the walls
- Take all rubbish to the outside waste bins
- Remove all belongings and food from the kitchen, fridge and freezer
- Clean shared spaces, including kitchens
- Check furniture is undamaged and where it was when you arrived
- Switch off lights, heating and electrical appliances
- Close your window
- Lock your bedroom door
- Collect any outstanding post from reception
- Update your address with companies, banks, delivery services and contacts
The aim is to leave your room and shared spaces clean, clear and ready for the next resident.
You’ll need to return your room key to your reception.
Please allow around 15 minutes to do this, as you’ll be asked to scan a QR code and complete an online Key Return form. If you don’t return your key, you may be charged £40.
No. Once you have handed in your key, you can’t leave anything in your room.
Anything left behind may be disposed of straight away, without notice, and you may be charged for this in line with the Terms and Conditions of Residence.
Please collect any outstanding post from reception before you leave and update your address wherever needed.
The accommodation team can’t forward post or take responsibility for delayed collections. Any post received after your departure may be returned to sender.
If you have items you no longer need, please consider donating them rather than throwing them away. Donation points are available around accommodation and campus to help reduce waste and support local charities.
You can donate unopened food items, such as tins, UHT milk, cereal and soup, at collection boxes in:
- The Village Reception
- Freemen’s Common Reception
Unopened toiletries and hygiene products, such as toothpaste, handwash, sanitary towels and tampons, can be donated at collection boxes in:
- The Village Reception
- Freemen’s Common Reception
Unwanted clothing or fabric items can be donated using the red British Heart Foundation donation banks at The City and The Village.
Kitchen equipment, such as crockery, cutlery, pots and pans, can be taken to:
- The Village Reception
- Freemen’s Common Reception
These items will either be donated or reused.
If you have bulky items, such as furniture, that you need to dispose of, you can arrange a collection through Leicester City Council.
